We didn’t abandon the idea of GPT Investor; we were heads-down rethinking the entire expression of the idea.

When we first built GPT Investor, our thesis was simple: the retail investor is drowning in data but starving for insight. We wanted to level the playing field using AI. But as we watched our early users interact with the application, we realized a hard truth about human cognitive friction.

Opening a chat interface and being asked, “What do you want to know?” is paralyzing. If you don’t know what to look for, a blank text box is intimidating. We were asking our users to do the heavy lifting.

So, we tore it down. We spent the last half-year engaged in a massive, ground-up rebuild of our entire application architecture to solve for time-to-value. Today, we are thrilled to announce that Phase 1 of the new GPT Investor is live.

Phase 1: From Blank Canvas to Instant Intelligence

The app looks completely different, feels lightning-fast, and is fundamentally more intelligent. Here is exactly what we just shipped:

1. The Auto-Generated Stock Brief

This is the new beating heart of GPT Investor. When you tap on any company, you no longer see a blank chat screen waiting for your prompt. Instead, our AI instantly generates a structured, plain-English brief in under 10 seconds. You immediately get the market sentiment (Bullish, Neutral, Bearish), a synthesis of what the company is doing, key financial metrics translated into plain English, and a clear breakdown of the single biggest risk and opportunity.

It passes our ultimate internal benchmark: Could a 23-year-old who has never read a financial report understand this at a glance? If you want to dig deeper, the chat interface is still there for follow-up questions. But the days of wondering what to ask are over.

2. An Action-Oriented Home Screen

We’ve completely restructured the app’s visual hierarchy to prioritise immediate action. The first thing you see is a bold search bar: Search a stock to analyse. Right below it, a horizontally scrolling list of Trending Stocks with real-time price changes. Our legacy features like Top Picks and Tidbits are still there, but they’ve been respectfully demoted to secondary sections. Our priority is to help you discover what’s moving and analyze it instantly.

3. Interactive “Show, Don’t Tell” Onboarding

We killed the generic, static onboarding screens. Now, when a new user opens GPT Investor, we ask them to pick a stock they’ve actually heard of (Apple, Tesla, Nvidia, etc.). We then generate a live, real-time AI brief for that exact stock right in the onboarding flow. You experience the product’s core value before you even hit the home screen.

The Horizon: Phase 2 and the Personalized Financial OS

Phase 1 was about fixing the activation loop. Phase 2 (which our engineering team is actively building right now) is about memory, retention, and personalized insights.

Here is a look at our immediate roadmap:

• Watchlists: You will soon be able to save the stocks you care about. This transforms GPT Investor from a search tool into your personalized financial space.

• The Daily Digest: A premium feature that delivers a concise, plain-English push notification at 8:00 AM local time. Instead of a data dump, our AI will synthesize exactly what happened overnight to the specific stocks in your Watchlist, why it matters, and if sentiment has shifted.

• Smart Watchlist Alerts: The market moves fast. We’re building intraday push notifications that only trigger for high-signal events, like a 3%+ price shift or breaking news on your saved assets. No spam. Just the signal you need to act.

The Origin Story

This feature has been brewing for a while.

As a team, we read a lot. From blogs to books like The Psychology of Money by Morgan Housel. (Paul even calls himself a disciple).

We kept asking ourselves:

Behind the Build

Tidbits has been the most stressful feature we’ve worked on in a while. But also one of the most rewarding.

From lightning-fast design iterations led by our amazing designer Kehinde Adegbite, to our “best software engineer in the world” Paul John dropping his mobile engineer hat to spin up admin dashboards, the team moved with incredible speed and focus.

And now, we’re thrilled to finally ship it.

We’ve fully redesigned dark mode support to offer a more comfortable viewing experience. You can now toggle between Light, Dark, or System Default modes, right from the new sidebar.

GPT Investor was born from a simple idea: democratize sophisticated investment research through the power of AI. We envisioned an app that could cut through the noise, interpret complex data, and present insights in plain English. More importantly, we wanted it to learn from each user, providing personalized guidance based on their investment style and goals.

Think of it as having a conversation with a knowledgeable friend who happens to have processed millions of data points about the market. You can ask questions, get explanations, and receive tailored recommendations – all without drowning in technical jargon or overwhelming charts.

Building in Public: Our journey from concept to reality

The journey began with a simple alpha version and 10 of our friends who agreed to try out what we built. Their feedback was brutal but invaluable. "The interface feels cluttered. Too much text," they said. "We need insights, not overly lengthy responses."

We went back to the drawing board. The beta version expanded to 20 users, and we watched closely as they interacted with the app. Every frustrated click, every confused pause, every feature request – it all shaped what GPT Investor would become.

Our users became our co-creators. When they asked for a trending stock list, we added it. When they wanted better search functionality that would make discovering individual stock easier, we built it. When they told us the interface didn’t properly support dark mode, we made it more accessible.

Overcoming Hurdles: The challenges that shaped us

Not every step of our journey was smooth sailing. Our initial infrastructure choice – free Render servers – taught us a harsh lesson about the importance of reliable technology. The servers would intermittently shut down, disrupting the user experience we were working so hard to perfect.

Being bootstrapped, we faced a classic chicken-and-egg problem: we needed better infrastructure to serve our users, but we weren't generating revenue yet. The solution came through persistence and creativity – we applied for and were accepted into both Microsoft for Startups and AWS for Startups programs. We chose AWS, giving us the runway we needed to focus on product refinement rather than server stability.

Where We're Headed: The future of democratized investment research

Today, GPT Investor is evolving faster than ever. Our chatbot has become users' favorite feature, but we're not stopping there. We're working on integrating more powerful AI models that can provide even more detailed, real-time analysis.

The future we envision includes:
