Drowning in Information, Starving for Knowledge
After nearly a year of launching this newsletter, I’ve finally settled on a template to work with, going forward. Having a template should help with my consistency. In the future, I hope to post once a week.
Enough with my pseudo-apologies, let's get to the meat of the matter!
Interesting Insights
Creation vs curation
We live in the so-called Information Age, and there is so much information around us that we don't know what to do with it. We are drowning in a sea of information, not just swimming in it.
It's an odd paradox that we're drowning in information while starving for knowledge! In fact, studies show that we may be less informed and knowledgeable than ever before.
In this new reality, I believe the "creators" who will thrive the most will not be traditional creators. We've created so much content that we don't know what to do with it!
Curators, I believe, will be the next generation of content creators. They will aggregate information relevant to a subject/field and act as dot connectors, collecting (trustworthy) data from various sources, bringing it together, and highlighting patterns that most of us would miss due to the sheer volume of data available.
On AI adoption
I was listening to a podcast when I came across something interesting. Have you noticed how quickly AI is being adopted in areas where mistakes aren't always fatal, such as image and content generation? Whereas, on the other hand, complete AI process automation in cases where errors could be fatal has been slow.
While people talk about AI being the death of digital artists and content creators, I believe it would take a long time to fully automate so many other processes. The truth is, we still prefer human judgment over cold, purely data-driven AI algorithms, the inner workings of which even the creators do not fully understand.
Media I’m consuming
Book: I recently began reading “Thinking, Fast and Slow” by Daniel Kahneman. I'm particularly curious about how our minds work during decision-making. Over time, I hope to become more aware of bias in my reasoning and more logical in general.
Podcast: The podcast I referenced earlier is titled “2023 Big Ideas in Technology” by a16z. If you’re interested in technology, you might want to check it out.
Movies: I've been rewatching "Industry" in my spare time. The show follows a group of young graduates as they compete for a limited number of permanent positions at a top London investment bank. I'm not sure why, but it speaks to me on many levels right now.
Article of the week
What would you do if you suddenly had $1 billion in the bank?
This piece follows an Italian entrepreneur who recently joined the tres coma club, but is unsure what to do with his newfound fortune. I especially enjoyed reading his origin story, which confirmed something I already knew: your background doesn’t matter, and you don't have to model your life after Musk, Gates, or Zuckerberg to make it big.
You can read it here.
That's all for this week. I intend on keeping it short and sweet going into the future.
Please feel free to leave a comment if you have any thoughts on the ideas I've shared here. I enjoy reading them!
